TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF MISCHIEF, a touch of ’60s glamour, add a couple of white-hot starlets, some rock ‘n’ roll, and you’ve got something worth watching. You can’t accuse DSquared² designers and twin brothers Dean and Dan of disconnecting. After 23 years spent elevating Pioneer aesthetics and styles of the Canadian woodlands, their manicured fingers are still on the pulse of influence. “Influence” here means “incredibly relevant, single-named female artists with legions of stylish gay fans”.

The brothers share a genius for attention. Madonna tapped on the duo to design more than 150 key pieces for her epic Drowned World Tour in 2001. Christina Aguilera appeared four years later on stage at the end of a DSquared² show to rip the clothes off male models because… how else do you live the fantasy? Then Rihanna opened a Milan show in 2007 by driving an American muscle car on stage, before slaying it on the runway.

This year’s DSquared² talents are barely past legal drinking age. Kendall Jenner, 22, half-sister to the Kardashians and charger of USD$150,000 to USD$300,000 per sponsored tweet. And Bella Hadid, 21, ex-girlfriend of The Weeknd, and the Palestinian-Dutch-American sibling of GiGi Hadid. Both sisters are blessed with cheekbones you can grate cheese with.

For DSquared²’s Fall/Winter 18 teaser, the girls play a duo of “bad girl honeys” in yoked detail shirts, checked into a motel that looks suspiciously like something out of Psycho. Since girls just want to have fun — thank you Cyndi Lauper — they’re getting on the old-fashioned rotary phone and calling a couple of perky boyfriends to join them. Lots of giggles, festivities, and non-committed dancing ensues.  Directed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the famous fashion photographers and frequent DSquared² who pioneered the use of digital manipulation in their field. The film happens in a deliciously retro ’60s motel room, and celebrates the big hair, embellished jackets and high heels to great effect — thanks in no small part to Kendall’s taut mid-riff.
