Bali is the island destination that keeps giving. Even if you are the world’s most basic tourist who is easily pleased by cat videos and videos of cats sipping pina coladas by the beach, there are exceptional reasons to return to Bali for a good time.
If tranquil paddy fields in Ubud, upbeat party vibes in Seminyak, and surfing off private beaches in Uluwatu aren’t enough of a draw, Keyyes recommends seven of our favourite bars and day clubs to start you off.
40 Thieves Club
Named after an American gang from the 1800s, this cool underground bar is edgy but far from raucous. It’s a welcome respite from Seminyak’s party circuit and a perfect choice for a late-night Manhattan. House specials are equally to die for. If you’d prefer something unique, the bartenders will be happy to whip something up. The owner, Shah Dillon — also an award-winning bartender — will take care of you.

Ku De Ta
Seminyak may be notorious for its hedonistic parties, but the island hasn’t lost its cool. Ku De Ta prides itself as an all-year idyllic, worry-free zone, and serves winning cocktails to go with the tan. It’s one of the best places on the island to catch the sunset, with postcard-perfect views of the Indian Ocean to ease into super lively evenings. Fun fact: It’s gotten less obnoxiously-crowded in the last couple of years, so we know you’ll appreciate the extra legroom on the sand.
Jl. Kayu Aya No.9, Seminyak, Badung, Bali, 80361, Indonesia
The Night Rooster
The Balinese village of Ubud is more than just an attraction for tourists fresh from reading Eat, Pray Love. It offers enlightenment in other ways, and what better than an evening spent at The Night Rooster? The favourites at this 40-seater bar — opened by the team behind Locavore and located between the restaurant and the deli— are highly imaginative cocktails shaped by native ingredients, which doesn’t mean they can’t handcraft a solid G&T. We recommend Ashes, a theatrical concoction of blowtorched fruit, rye whisky, vodka and fortified wine.
Jalan Dewisita, Padangtegal, Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, 80571 Indonesia. Book via the Keyyes Membership App
The views from this venue is perched will set you back hours — or days — of blissful chilling. Soak up the sun, the sounds from international guest DJs, or just be transported by the horizon of the Indian Ocean. El Kabron, a Spanish restaurant and club, is one of Bali’s most picturesque. The sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and the surfers below are a treat. Throw in some cool cocktails, tapas, an infinity pool and great company, and you’ll see why El Kabron is truly heaven on earth.

“Romance” gets thrown around a lot in Bali, but there isn’t any other adjective for Metis. The space, located in Jl. Petitenget in Seminyak, features a batik-inspired interior and stunning views of serene rice paddy fields. You’ll find an art gallery, a private wine cellar dining area, pastry shop, boutique and an adjoining lounge that hosts regular themed parties, great cocktails and wine. Pad your stomach before you head there for the night. You’ll find the finest French Mediterranean cuisine right here, and that includes an entire menu dedicated to foie gras.

Mirror Bali Lounge & Club
They were serious about the word “mirror” in the name. It’s hard to miss your reflection here, as the place looks like a Mars-sized disco ball shattered on the dance floor. If you’ve spent one too many nights at clubs without character, Mirror’s a breath of fresh air. The iconic party spot comes fitted with mosaic decor, stained glass windows and high ceilings matched with trippy laser lighting. Dance your night away to chart toppers, tech house and hip-hop. The strict dress code here makes sure you won’t find yourself in cargo shorts and flip-flops.
The newest club to grace one of Uluwatu’s dramatic cliffs, Omnia is the day club to end all beach clubs. Designed in collaboration with WOHA and the Rockwell Group, the space is lined with private cabanas and drop off ocean views. There are VIP bungalows, and an infinity pool to soak up the sun in. Don’t leave without a drink at The Cube bar, a towering spectacle that hovers over the cliff edge and brightens as the sun fades out.
